Utility Connor Watson is returning to the Sydney Roosters on a two-year deal.

Watson, 25, will leave the Newcastle Knights and return to the club at which he made his NRL debut in 2016.

Nine rugby league reporter Danny Weidler confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Watson has just reached 100 NRL games. He left the Roosters with the hope of becoming a starting player but has mostly remained a utility at Newcastle.

He would seem likely to remain in that role at the Roosters, with the spine positions well covered, but will have the opportunity to chase premierships with Trent Robinson's team after being elsewhere for their 2018-19 titles.
