The fallout of Latrell Mitchell's brutal hit on Joey Manu in Friday night's spiteful Rabbitohs-Roosters clash has taken another twist, with revelations emerging that a Tricolours player was locked in a bristling war of words with the South Sydney fullback after the game.

Mitchell, who won't play again this season after accepting a six-week ban for the incident, was captured by Channel Nine vision walking from the field when he appeared to be confronted by abuse cannoning out of the Roosters' tunnel at Lang Park.

Sources with knowledge of the scenario have told the Sydney Morning Herald that the player firing heated words at Mitchell was Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

"You couldn't make out who it was (in the vision), but we understand Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was the player (Mitchell) was talking to," said Sydney Morning Herald reporter Michael Chammas on Nine.

"You can see it was quite a heated conversation after the game. Latrell walks off then comes back, points towards Jared and they exchange words.

"It was quite a spiteful contest and the feeling between Latrell and the Roosters – there's no love lost there."
