Historic switch for Bathurst 1000 confirmed

The 2021 Bathurst 1000 schedule has been locked in, with the main race to be held in the afternoon for the first time ever.

This year's race will commence at 12:15pm AEDT on Sunday, December 5, with Triple Eight's Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander looking to go back-to-back.

The new start time surpasses the previous latest start time of 11:30am in 2019, making it the latest start time in the race's 59-year history.

Between 1979 and 2006 the race commenced at 10:00am local time before being moved to 10:30am in 2007.

The start time was again moved to 11:00am in 2015, before three consecutive yeras of 11:15am starts between 2016 and 2018.

A blockbuster six-day festival of motorsport at Mount Panorama will commence on Tuesday November 30 when support categories hit the track, with action to go straight through to the finale on that Sunday.

Supercars will commence their practice session on Thursday, December 2 before qualifying commences at 4:35pm local time on Friday, December 3.

That will be followed by the Top Ten Shootout at 5:05pm on Saturday evening before the final race on Sunday.
