Broncos coach Kevin Walters has declared the door will forever remain open for Warriors young star Reece Walsh to return to Brisbane ahead of this week's reunion.

Walsh will play his first game against his former side on Sunday as the Warriors look to keep their slim finals hopes alive.

The 19-year-old stunned fans of the Red Hill club earlier this season by gaining a release from the Broncos to take on a multi-year deal with the Warriors, which has proven to be arguably the biggest coup of the year.

Not only was Walsh on the doorstep of a Queensland Maroons debut, but the young gun looms as a shining light of what's to come for the Warriors, having already scored nine tries to go along with 10 try assists through 13 games.

"We never wanted to lose Reece," Walters told The Courier-Mail.

"We are a Queensland-based club and I had high hopes for Reece to play for the Broncos.

"I'm not sure what will happen down the track, but Reece is always welcome back here, certainly."

As it stands currently, the Warriors are part of a six-team race for the all-important eighth spot on the NRL ladder.

While the Titans currently hold that spot, Canberra, Cronulla, Wests Tigers, St George Illawarra and the Warriors are all within striking distance with three rounds to go.

Broncos great Sam Thaiday said he hoped his former side does their homework this week on Walsh, who he expects to have a big game in front of the Suncorp Stadium crowd.

"He's been playing some great footy," Thaiday told Wide World of Sports' QLDER.

"He is a player that I'm sure the boys will be watching a fair bit in their team meetings.

"A Sunday afternoon game at Suncorp Stadium, there's no better place to be and no better time that you want to be playing.

"They are going to have to have their homework done and tick every box before they go out there against a player like Walsh."
