Broward County Commissioner Diana Wasserman-Rubin has revealed that she will shut down her reelection campaign due to Parkinson's disease — not as a result of the investigation into her business dealings by Broward prosecutors.
Other political hopefuls wasted no time today lining up support for their own bids. Pembroke Pines City Commissioner Angelo Castillo said he will file — and he called Pines Mayor Frank Ortis to secure his endorsement. Though the pair don't always agree on issues, Ortis has agreed to back Castillo. Castillo said his wife Lisa Castillo will quit her job with lobbyist/campaign consultant Judy Stern to run her husband's campaign.
Former state sen. Steve Geller said he will decide this week whether to jump into the race and out of his contest with County Commissioner Sue Gunzburger – which would end the most bitter battle on the ballot in Broward. Southwest Ranches Town Council Member Steve Breitkreuz filed today. Breitkreuz is a Republican and the seat leans heavily Democratic.
Miramar Mayor Lori Moseley said she is not going to run.
