Gov. Charlie Crist may have more money and better poll numbers, but he's unlikely to make the "Young Black & Fabulous" celebrity blog — as did his Democratic rival for the U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami.
Meek was featured in a blog item about Wednesday night's kickoff reception for the annual Congressional Black Caucus conference, along with such luminaries as artist Sam Gilliam, actor Hosea Chanchez, comedian Mike Epps and rapper D-Nice. Meek is the chairman of the caucus's foundation, which hosts public policy forums and provides scholarships to minority students.
"He's running for Senate and will be 1 of only 2 black Senators if elected. Let's get it Florida,'' the blog says. But that will only be true if a black candidate is elected to replace Illinois Sen. Roland Burris, who is not running for re-election in 2010.
Meek will be introducing President Barack Obama at the conference's Saturday night gala at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. More on the conference here.
