Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, who has a reputation as a reliable Republican conservative, doesn't often find himself on the same side as the ACLU.

But in the case of the group of sex offenders living under the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami-Dade, the law-and-order politician and the civil liberties group seem to agree that local ordinances severely restricting where sex offenders live have gone too far. Story here.

A review of McCollum's positions on key issues shows that while he typically takes the conservative position, he has broken on some issues. He opposes offshore oil drilling and favors embryonic stem cell research and laws targeting at anti-gay violence.
