Supporters of CFO Alex Sink's historic campaign to be Florida's first female governor braved sweltering, above-100 temps for a happy hour fundraiser at Chez Pierre earlier this evening.

After an enthusiastic introduction by former Democratic House Rep. Loranne Ausley, who lauded Sink's dedication to health care and children's issues, Sink made the pitch for gatherers' time and money.

And for perhaps the first time publicly, Sink threw out a figure that suggests how much she wants to raise: $20-million?

"It's going to take enormous financial resources," Sink told the mostly-female group. "We're going to need something like 40,000 contributions from all over Florida."

Multiply that by the $500 max donation and you get $20-million from Florida, maybe more if she gets money from outside the Sunshine State. Later, her campaign spokeswoman Tara Klimek said the 40,000 is "just a number she threw out there."

The fundraiser, with a suggested $250 donation, included former Jeb Bush supporter Susie Busch-Transou, who held one of Republican Charlie Crist's first fundraisers for governor. Also there: Pat Mixon, April Salter, and Mary Chiles.
