A Coral Gables restaurant is offering teachers and school administrators congratulatory - and complimentary – drinks at a happy hour Friday night.

The event is billed as a commemoration of Gov. Charlie Crist's Thursday veto of the bill that would have eliminated tenure for new teachers and tied teacher pay to student test scores.

"You stopped the bill, it's time to chill," says the e-mailed invitation from Novecento. (Actually it says "you stoped the bill" – maybe a teacher should have graded the note before it went out.)

The bar is open for teachers and administrators, school identification required, from 5-7 p.m.

While it was actually Crist who stopped the bill, Miami-Dade teachers can claim credit for catching his attention this week when thousands took a personal day to protest the bill.
