The Broward Democratic Party has weighed in on the county's budget cutting battles! And the news release from party chair Mitch Ceasar says….

''Governmental entities are grappling with difficult choices.''

Duh.

Doesn't really move the debate about raising taxes vs. cutting services or Democratic county commissioners vs. Republican Sheriff Al Lamberti, does it?

The news release states that budgets aren't partisan issues and that decisions should be based on policy, not party politics.

"The Broward Democratic Party strongly believes that Broward County shines when we all work together for the greater good,'' states the news release.

Ceasar says it's a big deal for a party chair to announce that something isn't about party politics.

"We don't intend to weigh in because this is not a partisan issue in any way,'' said Ceasar, who said he read his news release to Broward Republican chair Chip LaMarca before sending it.

LaMarca says he doesn't expect the Republican Party to weigh in in partisan way, but he expects city elected officials to speak up if they feel the county isn't prioritizing public safety.

But Ceasar invited Broward Democratic Mayor Stacy Ritter, who played a big role in Barack Obama's campaign, to speak to the DEC next Tuesday. Ceasar said that invite was a couple weeks ago – before the fight between Lamberti and commissioners got hot.

Meanwhile, Ceasar is less than thrilled that the Dolphin Democrats and the Democratic Black Caucus of Broward County invited Lamberti to recent events. Ceasar said those groups are chartered through the state and not the county so he can't take any action against them.

"I can understand why the sheriff would like to attend a Democratic function, I just don't understand the reverse,'' he said.
