The Washington Post reports that U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami, the frontrunning Democrat for an open Senate seat, is among a handful of Democratic members who are proposing that federal money continues to be prohibited from paying for abortions for poor women.

"Now it is imperative that we reach some consensus on the issue of abortion in health care reform so we can move this critical issue forward,'' the lawmakers wrote to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
