A spokeswoman for Republican Bill McCollum's campaign for governor, Shannon Gravitte, just sent an e-mail saying this: "Still don't have exact numbers, but we are around $1M for quarter in total contributions."

Huh? The Republican Party of Florida says it raised about $4 million. Gravitte said yesterday that McCollum and the RPOF raised a combined $4.5 million.

Perhaps the McCollum campaign is counting money he raised for the party in his "total contributions?''

UPDATE: Gravitte says the $1 million includes individual contributions and "in-kind" donations of goods and services. Candidates typically do not count the value of the in-kind donations — frequently office space or consulting or staff from the state party — in their donation totals. In-kind donations could also be food and drinks donated by the host of a fundraiser.
