The National Hispana Leadership Institute is urging Gov. Charlie Crist to consider state Rep. Anitere Flores for appointment to the U.S. Senate, calling her qualifications "impeccable" and her leadership skills "outstanding."
"Your appointment of a Latina to Senator Martinez' seat would attest to your commitment to the state's sizable and growing Hispanic population,'' reads a letter from the group's president, Cristina Lopez.
Crist's current shortlist of seven people includes one woman (state Rep. Jennifer Carroll of Jacksonville) and one HIspanic man (former U.S. Attorney Roberto Martinez of Miami.) Flores, 32, just barely meets the Senate's requirement that members be at least 30 years old.
