Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti announced to his staff today that the agency will review rules for outside employment. This comes as Lamberti's former executive officer, Lt. David Benjamin, is the subject of an internal affairs investigation for starting a side business with the help of a Scott Rothstein attorney.

Employees must fill out a form and get approval — the question is if Benjamin did that. Lamberti has moved Benjamin out of his role overseeing internal affairs and as his right-hand man and into a less prominent role in juvenile intake.

Here is what Lamberti wrote in an email today about the policy revision which does not mention Benjamin:

Outside Employment – Our agency policy pertaining to outside employment requests is being revised. A newly revised form will be available on our Forms Library in BSOinformant. The actual policy revision will be posted in the coming weeks. All employees currently engaged in outside employment of any kind will be required to submit a new application for evaluation and approval. It will be the employee’s individual responsibility to submit this form annually and have it approved prior to beginning or continuing to work outside employment. Further clarifications will soon be posted.
