Attention commuters and Broward residents: FDOT is trying (once again) to force highway expansion down your throat. You have an opportunity to come out and voice your opinion at a workshop sponsored by FDOT. They call it an ‘alternatives’ workshop, but what they really want to do is spoon feed you the alternative that they are going to follow through with – unless enough people come out and tell them otherwise.
SR-93/I-75 Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study

Limits: SR 826 in Miami-Dade County then along I-75 to I-595 in Broward County
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 has scheduled an Alternatives Public Workshop for the above referenced project. This project is currently in the Project Development and Environment (PD&E) phase. The Alternatives Public Workshop will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Broward County Southwest Regional Library, located at 16835 Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines. The Alternatives Public Workshop will be an open-house forum where all viable alternatives that have been developed will be on display. The goal of the workshop is to collect and evaluate the public’s comments on these alternatives before selecting a preferred alternative. This is a chance for light rail to connect the western Broward suburbs to the I-595 rapid transit corridor currently in the design phase. Unfortunately, FDOT wants to just expand the highway and pay lip service to transit by saying that it might accommodate bus service some time in the future because they don’t see a need right now. Interesting, if there is no need, then why expand the highway? Come out tonight, from 5:30-7:30 pm, and let FDOT know that you want more transit options now (not some time in the distant future).
