The Republican Party of Florida raised more than $4 million in the past three months, according to an e-mail from chairman Jim Greer.Download 1_text

The good news: That's significantly more than $2.5 million the Florida Democratic Party raised during the same time period, though the GOP was boosted by its annual Statesman's Dinner in Orlando last month.

The bad news: Does that mean Republican Bill McCollum raised only about half a million dollars last quarter, compared to $1.6 million by Democrat Alex Sink in the governor's race? McCollum's campaign said yesterday that it and the RPOF raised a combined $4.5 million. You do the math.

But the campaign refused to confirm that McCollum's donations totalled roughly $500,000. Instead it referred mysteriously to a "collective emphasis this quarter on party building to benefit all Republican candidates."

It's all about the spin until McCollum files his report with the Florida Division of Elections, due Tuesday.
