Barbra Stern, daughter of powerful campaign manager and lobbyist Judy Stern, said she is thinking about running for house District 91.
Stern switched her party affiliation yesterday from Republican to Democrat. It would have been easier for her to stay put since the district leans heavily right, but Stern said she couldn't commit herself to the Republican party.
"I consider myself more of a moderate,'' Stern said.
Stern said she was a Democrat for several years but switched when her friend Shane Strum was running as chair of the Broward Republican Party. Now Strum is thinking about running on the Republican side of the ticket.
Stern, 35, works as an employment lawyer and has worked on a few campaigns though she has never run for office. She said her mom won't manage her campaign though she would help out.
"She's my mom,'' said Stern. "We're not going to always agree on everything. I would definitely have her involved. I need a buffer.''
Stern says this is her idea — she said she hasn't been recruited though she's talked it over with other political players including state Rep. Evan Jenne.
