(Colleen Griffin with UF scientists, 2005, courtesy of Pat Wade)Florida’s tropical fruit industry lost a pioneer yesterday with the passing of Colleen Griffin. Colleen’s family grew mangos along 200 St. and 147 Ave. Colleen was very active in the tropical fruit industry, as well as the community, and she worked very hard to help to keep Florida tropical fruits viable. She was an active member of

Won’t be back till Monday. I’m taking a few days off from this cesspool of a blog. I wish I could leave comments on but some of you have been mischievous lately. Maybe Gimleteye will check the comments and post while I am away, otherwise go read the Miami Herald, here’s hoping your favorite reporter isn’t on unpaid furlough (that is what they have all been doing). I just realized I am now like

On the last day of August, the Florida Supreme Court tossed the Florida legislature’s effort to thwart redistricting on the November ballot. The poison pill by the GOP majority was likely worked by Miguel de Grandy. The measure, that would have watered down two amendments put on the ballot by citizens’ petition dealing with redistricting, was deemed as "misleading" by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile

Word on the street is that last Friday Lynda Bell, Candidate for District 8, and one of her campaign consultants, Jose Luis Castillo were seen visiting Vile Natacha Seijas’ office. I previously reported that the Stephen Cody Lawsuit against Eugene Flinn (which was dismissed) might have connections to Natacha as Cody represented her in a lawsuit. Coincidentally Cody worked with Miguel DeGrandy

Over the weekend, a new hero ventured forth from captivity. At the taxpayer funded Parrot Jungle, Watson the Ape let a Bengal tiger out of his cage when the gibbon followed his handler from captivity after a feeding. It is like a new reader of Eyeonmiami following Geniusofdespair into the light. The result caused visitors to Parrot Jungle to flee in horror from the unleashed, 500 lb. tiger: "We

I am told that Commissioner Little Joe Martinez just couldn’t muster the votes to get his bright idea to start advertising in parks on the ballot. Because Dan Paul got the ban in the Charter — the County Commissioners would need a super majority, to put the item on the ballot. Didn’t happen, even though there was a meeting called, but the issue could raise it’s ugly head again. Miami Herald

Our public servants were either complicit in not revealing the fact they were proceeding blind without seeing the financials, or they didn’t have the testicular fortitude to stand up to the Marlins. The third possibility, of course, is they are too stupid to be engaged in business deals!I am dumbfounded at the vitriol and negative emotion being directed at the Florida (Miami?) Marlins over the

What does the District 8 runoff election represent to me? It is like the Supreme Court swing seat. WE win many of the super majority votes in the Miami Dade Commission by one or lose them by one. Without the right person in Katy Sorenson’s seat, you will see this County slip further down the tubes — we will shift right. As I said all along, this is the most important county seat and I am not
