“We are planning a Bike Prom for Bike Month, so dress fancy, or if you have a tuxedo t-shirt you can wear that too. We will post more details as it develops. The general plan is to meet at 9:00pm at Government Center and ride off, we’ll ride around Downtown and Brickell, Wynwood, stop at Bayfront Park, the ride along the river. The ride will end at Vagabond, free entry and cheap drinks till midnight. Also, secure bike parking at Bar right next door (for customers). If anyone wants to bring a big boom box please let me know.

Rides back to Government Center will be organized so you don’t have to ride alone.” – Emerge Miami

It’s finally here, Google Maps bicycling directions. Unfortunately there’s not many bike lanes/paths and greenways in S. Florida so please use caution. Bicycling directions are in beta.

    Read more about it here.

I no longer need to anticipate the possibility of Miami being included on Ride The City, a similar bicycling/map website that helps you find safer bike routes in cities. Ride The City is currently only available in NYC, Chicago, Austin, DC, Seattle, San Diego & Louisville.

Thanks to everyone who came out this past Saturday for the first Beer Snob MIA Bicycle Pub Crawl. The event was a lot of fun and most importantly safe. Saw lots of new faces along with some familiar ones and the consensus is most folks had some sort of new experience; whether they discovered a new bar, tried a new beer, established a new friendship or rode on an unfamiliar bicycle route. The t-shirts and spoke cards were a hit amongst participants. Overall it was a success and we’ll probably be doing it again in a few months.

*If you pre-ordered a Beer Snob t-shirt, expect a call from me later this week.

Here’s a video from the pub crawl.

Below are a few photos. There’s a lot more pictures from the pub crawl here. If you have some pics feel free to add them to the Facebook events page.

*We’re going to meet some people at the Adrienne Arsht Center Station Metromover Station (formerly Omni – 15th/Biscayne) at 3:30pm sharp for riders who wish to ride over from downtown to Zeke’s (Miami Beach) via Venetian Causeway with a group.

We’ll be starting off at Zeke’s at 4pm where all beers are just $4! We’ll then make a stop at The Abbey, The DRB, and finally Titanic Brewery in South Miami via the M-Path. The pub crawl conveniently ends near the University Metrorail Station for those who wish to take the train back vs riding.

Remember to bring a bicycle lock. A light is also recommended since it’ll be dusk by the time we leave the last bar. The pub crawl should be over before 8pm.

    from Florida Bicycle Association

“March is Florida Bicycle Month. Contact your local municipality for a list of events in your area of the state. For a list of contacts go HERE. If you know of events in your area, let us know and we’ll post on the calendar of events on the FBA blog. Also check out the Florida Bicycle Touring Calendar for a list of bicycle rides in March and throughout the year. Help us celebrate March in a big way for bicyclists.

The month of May is promoted nationally as National Bike Month by the League of American Bicyclists, however, many cities/areas throughout Florida choose to observe Bike Month earlier due to Florida’s warm weather.

SEND YOUR MESSAGE TO THE NATIONAL BIKE SUMMIT

March 9-11, 13 Floridians will attend the 10th edition of the National Bike Summit in Washington DC. The National Bike Summit is our chance to tell members of Congress how the federal government can create a bike friendly America. Unfortunately, we will not have advocates representing all of Florida’s 25 congressional districts, so we need your help.

Will you let the Florida Bicycle Association and members of “Team Florida” bring your voice to Capitol Hill?

If so, send your name, your representative and a short statement about why bicycling is important to you or what issues concern you most. A member of Team Florida will deliver your message directly to your congressional representative and senators.

To find the name of your representative, go HERE. Enter your zip code in the “Find Your Officials” box and the names of your federal and state elected officials will appear. For a statewide perspective of districts, check out the Florida Federal Congressional District Map available as a PDF file.

It’s not too late to register for the National Bike Summit. The more constituents from Florida, the more powerful Team Florida will be during our day on Capitol Hill. “
