Vice President Joe Biden will hold a conference call today with the nation's governors to bring them up to speed on reporting requirements for the stimulus act. (No word on whether Gov. Charlie Crist — who infuriated his fellow GOP'ers by backing the stimulus plan – will participate; it's not on his schedule)
States, cities and counties as of Oct. 1 will have 10 days to report to Washington on how the stimulus dollars are being spent. The administration plans to put all the information online by Oct. 31 to show where the money is going. White House communications director Anita Dunn told reporters the Obama administration believes the $787 billion infusion has been a "genuine success in helping to rescue the economy from the precipice it was on when this president took office."
Crist has been criticized for spending the money too slowly. A new report out suggests Florida has been spending its money on transportation dollars — 40 percent of its highway dollars are going for road widening. But its only "drawn down" 1 percent of some of its education funding. Some states haven't drawn down any.
