Gov. Charlie Crist today asked former state Sen. and House Speaker Dan Webster to submit an application for Mel Martinez' soon to be vacated US Senate seat. The Governor will interview Senator Webster tomorrow in Orlando, time to be determined.

Recap: Crist has requested questionnaires from former Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart (who said thanks but no thanks), US Attorney Roberto Martinez, Jim Smith, John Delaney, Rep. Jennifer
Carroll, George LeMieux, Congressman Bill Young and Senator Webster. He has interviewed Martinez, Delaney, Carroll and LeMieux.

Geographically and demographically, the list has two Hispanics, an African-American (who is also a female veteran), a rock-ribbed conservative, a Democrat-turned Republican, three South Floridians (we're inc. Lemieux in that), a Tampa Bay lawmaker, two northeast Floridians, a Central Floridian.
